Boil notice lifted for Rosses water supply

A BOIL water notice for the Rosses has been lifted following remedial works carried out by Irish Water, in partnership with Donegal County Council.

The utility company said that following the completion of remedial measures, the receipt of satisfactory monitoring results, and in consultation with the HSE, the boil notice on the Rosses Regional Water Supply has now been lifted.

Speaking about the lifting of the notice, Irish Water’s Seamus O’Brien said: “Irish Water acknowledges and understands the impact this Boil Water Notice had on the community, and we sincerely regret the inconvenience. Our drinking water compliance and operational experts worked hard to resolve this issue as quickly and as safely as possible. We are grateful to the media, elected representatives and members of the public who shared the information. We would also like to thank Donegal County Council and HSE for their input and support throughout the process.”

The notice, arising out of operational difficulties at Crolly Water Treatment Plant, was put in place to protect the health of approximately 10,000 customers in the Crolly, Loughanure, Annagry, Kinncasslagh, Burtonport, Dungloe, Gweedore, Gola Island and all areas and group water schemes supplied by Crolly Water Treatment Plant.

All consumers affected by the notice and served from the Rosses regional Public Water Supply can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.

Irish Water and the Local Authority/Health Service Executive Water Liaison Group will continue to meet and will review ongoing process control, monitoring and testing of the drinking water supply.

If customers have any queries regarding this Boil Water Notice and the lifting of it, they should contact Irish Water directly on our customer care helpline, open 24/7, on 1800 278 278.

Meanwhile Irish Water is working with their contractor and the local authority to restore water as quickly as possible to impacted customers following a process fault at Lettermacaward Water Treatment Plant. They warned that whilst every effort is being made to maintain supply, customers may experience temporary intermittent low pressure and/or water outages in Lettermacaward, Portnoo, Rossbeg, Cleangort, Doochary, Meenacross, Dooey, Maghery, Falmore areas, and Inishfree Island.

Dedicated water service crews have mobilised and repairs are underway and are expected to be completed early tomorrow afternoon, Friday, 23 December. Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.
