Donegal County Council have received reports of bogus collectors in the Lifford area yesterday evening, purporting to be from the Council.
A man and women entered a business premises in Lifford between 6 and 7 pm seeking payment of rates. They did not have identification badges but had a letterhead with the Council Crest. No money was paid to them. We have asked the business concerned to report the matter to the Gardaí.
A Council spokesperson said: “We are asking all business owners to be vigilant of this type of activity. Council staff carry identification badges at all times and it is only in limited circumstances that staff will call to business owners without a prior engagement or appointment.”
