Body recovered from Sliabh Liag following search operation

A body has been recovered at Sliabh Liag following a multi agency search operation.

Killybegs Coast Guard was tasked by Malin MRSC after reports of a missing person on Tuesday, February 24 at 5pm.

Following an initial search by Rescue 118 assisted by An Garda Síochána, it was decided to return to base.

At first light on Wednesday morning, Rescue 118 searched the area again and located an area of significance.

Bunbeg Coast Guard Drone Team were called in and provided top cover in the area to be searched.

The Coast Guard’s climbing team then located the casualty and safely transferred them to the top of the summit where they were met by a doctor and subsequently pronounced deceased.

“Killybegs Coast Guard wish to express their sympathy to the deceased persons family.

“We wish to thank R118, An Garda  Siochana, Bunbeg Coast Guard Drone Team for their assistance and cooperation during the search,” a spokesperson for the Killybegs Coast Guard said.
