A BODY has been recovered from a river at Bridgend yesterday, believed to be that of missing Derry man Stephen McCloskey.
Gardai have confirmed that the body of a male was discovered on Sunday afternoon but had not been formally identified. A post mortem is due to be carried out by State Pathologist, Professor Marie Cassidy this morning.
At the time of going to press gardai and the emergency services were at the scene at Carrowreagh close to where a jeep belonging to Mr McCloskey was found last week.
Gardai in Donegal had been assisting the PSNI in the search for Stephen McCloskey (33) who had been missing from his home for 11 days since October 28 and had set up an incident centre on the main Derry to Letterkenny Road.
On Thursday afternoon the Sikorsky search and rescue helicopter from Sligo, at the request of gardai, combed the area around the Grianan farm and Inch Lake as part of the search.
Family and friends joined together on Friday morning, along with volunteers from Foyle Search and Rescue to search the fields around Burt – a place that holds no association with Stephen.
However, the search focused on the Burt/Inch Lake area where his jeep was found near the Grianan Hotel.
