Blow for men’s shed as thieves steal oil

MEMBERS of the newly set up men’s shed in Manorcunningham were left devastated this week after discovering their oil was stolen over the Christmas period.

The group, which had just purchased the oil two weeks ago, is appealing for the public to keep a close eye on their oil tanks after the incident.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Paddy Brady said it is a big blow for the men’s shed which was set up in September by a group of friends eager to provide an outlet for men to socialise locally.

“The man that owns the building noticed it. Two tanks were syphoned,” he said.

“We are asking the community to be vigilant and keep an eye on their tanks.”

With rising electricity and heating costs men’s sheds across the country are finding it difficult to keep things running.

“We are always struggling to keep going. That’s life, it is full of setbacks but we will keep going,” added Mr Brady.

He said if the thieves were in need of oil over the Christmas period they could have come to the men’s shed for help.

“If they had of come to us we could have helped them out. That’s what we are here for,” he said.
