SHANE Blaney impressed so much as Sligo Rovers knocked out Motherwell in the Europa Conference League qualifiers that it earned him a move to the Scottish club.
The defender scored a superb free-kick 12 months ago and kept two clean sheets as his then Sligo side surprised many in knocking out the Steelmen, and he was on the clubs radar from then on.
Manager Graham Alexander was sacked after that game and Assistant Manager Steven Hammell was named the new boss at Motherwell.
And it was Hammell who made contact with the Letterkenny man after impressing in that tie, but it was a long time before he was eligible to play in January of this year.
“It wasn’t long after the two European fixtures that we played against them, they got in contact soon after that,” Blaney said on the move.
