MOTORISTS are being warned to be vigilant for black ice on roads around the county this morning as temperatures plummet.
Met Eireann has said a widespread overnight sharp frost is likely to bring with it black ice in the first few hours of this morning. Speaking to the Donegal News yesterday, Emer Flood, Meteorologist, said the coming days will be very cold with showers of sleet and snow today and on Friday.
“Thursday will see hail, sleet and snow showers. There is potential for snow showers on both lower and higher grounds. Temperatures during Thursday and Friday daytime will be around 3 to 4 degrees but this will drop considerably at night time to -2 or -3 degrees.”
Ms Flood said weekend sleet and snow showers will be confined to coastal areas of Donegal.
While the weekend will see drier weather conditions, she warned, however, that there will be dense fog.
“Although Saturday will see dry weather, daytime temperatures will not get above two degrees. However, it will be much colder at night as temperatures will drop to – 2 degrees.”
