Bishop Alan heads for the heavens in fundraising effort

BISHOP Alan McGuckian and two of his fellow clerics will embark on a ‘Rosary Climb’ up Errigal later this month.

Bishop McGuckian, Fr Philip Kemmy and Fr Damien Nejad will take on the challenge in aid of the St Eunan’s Cathedral Youth Ministry Programme.

The youth ministry is carried out by a team of young adults who volunteer to give a year of their lives to evangelise and do faith formation with teenagers and other young adults.

NET Ministries, based out of Ballybofey, provide a team for the parish each year. Working with the priests of the parish, the youth team runs youth groups, prayer groups, bible studies, confirmation preparation, school retreats and encouragement in the faith for the young people of the area.

During the pandemic all the youth outreach went virtual and the NET team enabled the cathedral parish to reach out through social media and videos to all parishioners of all ages.

On September 27 the task facing Bishop McGuckian, Fr Philip Kemmy and Fr Damien will be real rather than virtual though – tackling Donegal’s highest mountain.

A spokesperson for the Youth Ministry Programme said they were very grateful to the three men for their efforts.

“So far almost €3,000 has been raised and every penny will go towards a very good cause. We all thank Bishop Alan, Fr Philip and Fr Damien for their efforts and everyone in the parish wishes them well on their climb.”

There are a number of mechanisms for donating, including through the St Eunan’s Cathedral website and www.gofundme.com. For all information log on to the St Eunan’s Cathedral Facebook page today.
