Birds Of Chicago
THERE IS a brilliant night of music coming up at the Balor this week with a welcome return visit for Birds Of Chicago.
The Birds – a roots/americana collective based around the remarkable talents of JT Nero and Allison Russell – played one of the memorable gigs of 2013 when they came to Ballybofey last April. They’ve since gone from strength to strength emerging as two of the most compelling new voices in North American roots music.
They’ve released two albums both receiving rave critical reveiews and winning them a host of new fans on both sides of the Atlantic. Nero’s fractured country-soul voice wrapped in Russell’s silver and gold tones is a fine thing. Not too perfect, not at all saccharine, you’ll hear echoes of mountain gospel, street corner doo-wop, and classic soul. Support on the night comes from local indy duo Glow.
Birds Of Chicago are at The Balor on Saturday May 10th. Tickets for both gigs are €15 apiece, available from The Balor on 074913180 or www.balorartscentre.com
