CLOSE to 100 bikers turned out for a coastal drive in memory of the late Sylvester Hiemstra, a native of Holland who had been living in Donegal.
Sylvester started visiting Donegal over 20 years ago for fishing trips and stayed at The Beach Hotel in Downings.
During this time he met his wife Lisa and moved to Milford. Ronan Molloy told the Donegal News how he and his friend Chris Peoples decided to organise the fundraiser in aid of the Donegal Hospice following the great care they gave to their friend Sylvester before he sadly passed away earlier this year.
Sylvester was a keen biker himself, so a charity bike run was only fitting.
The event which took place last weekend saw bikers take off from Kernan’s in Ramelton and venture around the Atlantic Drive.
They made a pit stop at The Beach Hotel in Downings for refreshments, whilst there Darragh McClafferty and his wife Victoria kindly donated €1,000 toward the cause.
The Sylvester Hiemstra Memorial Bike Run has fundraised over €3,000 so far.
Ronan also thanked Maple in Carrigart, The Travellers Inn in Milford, Kernan’s in Ramelton, Tully Lawnmowers and CNM Embroidery for their support, as well as the motor cycle community in Donegal, who, he said, always “pull together and turn out in their droves for charity events”.
