BRASS-necked thieves stole the bikes of two five-year-old heart-broken pals in broad daylight in Letterkenny earlier this week.
The bikes, owned by Liam Duff and Shane O’Dowd, were stolen from their families’ front gardens at Oatfield Terrace some time early Tuesday evening.
Liam got his Ben 10 bike for Christmas, while Shane had just started cycling after being bought his very first bike (a JCB) two months ago.
Shane’s mother, Ms Sharon O’Dowd said this is not the first time one of the children’s toys was stolen from a front garden at the small estate.
“My daughter’s scooter was also stolen from the front garden recently. We take all our children’s toys in every night, but this was done in broad daylight.
“We immediately phoned the gardaí and reported the thefts; It has to have been an adult, or two, as no child could have lifted the two bikes, which are pretty heavy
“We have a great neighbourhood where everyone looks out for each other, so it is really disappointing to have to feel that it’s not safe to leave your child’s bike in your front garden safely during the day-time,” said Ms O’Dowd.
“I see other estates in the area where people leave their children’s bikes out all night, I would definitely urge those people to take the toys in at night-time and be keep a good eye on them during the day, considering what happened to Liam and Shane’s bikes,” she added.
