The best takeaway in Ireland is in Letterkenny

Just Eat, Ireland’s leading online food ordering and delivery service hosted the fourth annual Just Eat National Takeaway Awards yesterday (17th October 2017) to recognise and reward the leaders from the takeaway restaurant sector. Representatives from dozens of shortlisted restaurants gathered to celebrate the best takeaway restaurants and dishes from all across the country.

There were 20 categories this year with customers able to vote for their favourite take away restaurant in Ireland as well as their favourite takeaway dish. The awards are the only ones in Ireland that recognise and celebrate the quality of food, choice and service consistently delivered by this important sector of the food services industry.

The annual Just Eat National Takeaway Awards give members of the public the opportunity to vote for their favourites, rewarding quality and taste with a nomination and a vote. Voting took place over the past few weeks with over 20,000 votes cast for takeaway restaurants nationwide.

The Just Eat National Takeaway Awards took place in Number 22, South Anne Street in Dublin 2, with comedian Colm O’Regan and radio host Louise Duffy presenting the awards to winners in each of the 20 categories which included Best Takeaway Chinese, Best Takeaway Salad, Best Takeaway Mexican and Best Takeaway Indian.

The big winners on the night were Letterkenny based Mexican Takeaway Restaurant, Burrito Loco, who received thousands of votes and went on to win Best Takeaway Lunchtime, Best Takeaway Ulster and the overall and most coveted award for Best Takeaway Ireland. Letterkenny’s Friar’s Rest also took home the award in the Best Takeaway Chipper category.

Thai Green Curry won the title of Ireland’s Favourite Dish whilst the ever-popular Spice Bag continues to prove a hit with Just Eat customers, with its own dedicated Best Spice Bag award category. Lin Keen takeaway in Swords won the highly competitive title for Ireland’s Best Spice Bag. For the second year in a row Phibsborough’s Camile Thai won in the Best Takeaway Thai category and Firehouse Pizza was awarded Best Takeaway Pizza nationwide.

Amanda Roche Kelly, Managing Director Just Eat Ireland said: “The Just Eat National Takeaway Awards continue to grow year on year. The number of restaurants that enter, the numbers of votes cast and the overall attendance at the awards has grown significantly since we launched the Awards in 2014. It is becoming a really important date on the calendar of not only the 2,000 restaurants on the Just Eat platform but on the calendar of all those in the country who strive to create and deliver quality food for consumers to takeaway.

“We know how committed our takeaway restaurant partners are by providing a quality service for customers and we think it’s extremely important to recognise and celebrate this. As the takeaway sector continues to diversify and expand, the scope for these awards can only increase.

“I would particularly like to say a huge congratulations to Burrito Loco who scooped the overall prize this year as well as winning in two other categories and of course to Friar’s Rest. Over the years they have been a firm favourite at the awards and it’s fantastic to see their efforts and hard work pay off with the recognition this evening.”
