Former Republic of Ireland and Celtic goalkeeper, Packie Bonner, will unveil a bench in memory of another Donegal footballing legend, John ‘Gorey’ Curran.
The unveiling will take place at Oldtown Bridge, Letterkenny on Wednesday next, April 3, and has been organised by the Letterkenny Community Heritage Group.
“Gorey did so much for the game in an administrative level both at local and national level and it’s only fitting that we should remember him in this way,” the Group’s chairman, Johnny McCollum declared.
“It’s also appropriate that the seat is located in his beloved Oldtown – a permanent reminder of all that he did during a lifetime dedicated to football.”
The unveiling will be held at 7pm on Wednesday and all are welcome.
John ‘Gorey’ Curran was a lifelong member of Letterkenny Rovers FC and was a leading figure in schoolboys football in the town for so many years.
He will be best remembered as a leading administrator, filling numerous roles on a host of league committees both at county, provincial and FAI level.
The John ‘Gorey’ Curran Cup is organised each season in his memory by the Donegal Youth League.
