‘Be back soon’ – Séamus Coleman gives injury update

Séamus Coleman has given an update that his injury suffered against Leicester is not as serious as first thought after scans have come back indicating no significant ligament damage.

The Everton defender suffered what looked like a serious injury against Leicester on Monday night which was initially thought could cast doubts over the remainder of his career.

The Killybegs man was stretchered off in the first half of Everton’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, a game that was crucial in the relegation battle.

But he took to Instagram today to give an update, saying: “Just wanted to update you all, thanks so much for all the well wishes. Just back from my scan & pleased to say I have no ACL damage. Be back soon.”

Coleman went in for a challenge against Boubakary Soumare and left many Everton fans worried that it could be the last time he plays for the club, with his contract with the Toffees expiring this summer.

While it is believed that the injury is not as serious as first thought, but with less than four weeks left of the Premier League season, he will face a race against time to return for Everton’s final games.

It will be something that Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny and Irish fans will also be keeping an eye on, as they have their second and third European Championship qualifiers coming up next month, as they face Greece in Athens on the 16th of June, followed by a home game against Gibraltar three days later.

Coleman is just three games off becoming Everton’s record appearance maker in the Premier League era, playing 352 times, the joint most from an outfield player with Leon Osman, while American goalkeeper Tim Howard holds the record on 354.
