Donegal Under 20 manager Shaun Paul Barrett was pleased with the ‘great resilience’ his side showed against Cavan in Breffni Park on Wednesday night.
Barrett’s side won by 2-15 to 0-16 and played some lovely football in the first half.
Cavan battled back in the second half and they got to within three points.
However, Donegal steadied up in the closing moments to get the win they craved.
“It was a very tight game. We played well in the first half,” said Barrett.
“We created a good few scoring chances and we took them. I suppose we were very fortuitous with a goal – a high ball went in and the goalkeeper dropped it into his own net.
“That gave us a bit of a cushion. We said at half-time that this game is far from over. Up in Breffni Park, it’s always going to be difficult.
“Cavan are obviously very hungry and very proud, and they really put it up to us in the second half and they worked very hard.
“We knew that was going to happen but thankfully they showed great resilience and got a couple of scores at the end to push on.”
