Barbara’s Christmas wreaths still a popular festive tradition

By Róise Collins

LOCAL woman Barbara Smith is much more than just a friendly face at the roadside, she is also a very special part of people’s Christmas traditions.

Every year in the run up to the festive season Barbara sells homemade Christmas wreaths from her fruit and veg stall close to the Killross junction on the Letterkenny to Ballybofey road.

Each wreath is handmade from her home near St Johnston, where she individually crafts them to the needs of each customer.

They are a very special way to remember those that are no longer with us.

“Everybody has different needs and everybody has different thoughts on the person that passed away.

“Some people like a wee added touch, maybe a wee robin, or something that is sentimental to them,” she said.

Barbara has welcomed many regular and returning customers throughout the years. Her wreaths have become a special part of their holiday celebrations.

The Christmas wreaths will still be available to purchase from her fruit and veg stop at the Killross junction up until Christmas Eve.
