The 80 bed Ballyshannon Community Hospital is nearing completion.
It is anticipated the building will be completed by March/April 2023 with a handover phase to be agreed with staff after completion.
The HSE confirmed there are a number of finishing touches underway including floor coverings, fitting final furniture, preparatory works for final internal painting and decorating.
The testing and checking of mechanical and electrical services is also ongoing.
Externally plans are in place in the coming weeks to complete the road surfaces, footpath, car parking and garden/paved areas.
The necessary equipment to fit out the building is being ordered including identifying existing equipment to be transferred from the existing facilities. All of this will ensure that ensure that residents will receive a high standard of care in a homely and modern environment
There will be a series of information and orientation sessions with staff to get them familiar with the new facilities before relocation of residents.
Frank Morrison, Head of Older Persons Service Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo said, “Consultation is ongoing with the Older Persons Service, patient advocates and the wider community to put a plan in place for the transfer of the residents to the new facility when all the provisions are in place and the appropriate approvals have been received. This includes inspection and approval of the facility by the Health Information & Quality Authority. We look forward to welcoming our residents to the new Ballyshannon Community Hospital”
