This week, Donegal is being represented internationally as Ireland takes the stage in Berlin at one of the largest travel trade fairs in the world.
Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) is an important business to business event that attracts thousands of visitors worldwide, all associated with travel agents, airlines and travel media. It is a three day event dedicated to provide tourism companies with opportunities for networking and negotiations on an international level.
Ballyshannon-based White Tours & Hotels is at Ireland’s stand, promoting their packages and curated tours across Ireland. They hope to attract overseas tourism business for Ireland and Donegal.
Tourism Ireland is competing on a global scale to promote our shares in the international travel market. Tourism Ireland creates a platform that is, “responsible for marketing the island of Ireland overseas as a leading holiday destination,” according to their website.
Speaking at ITB Berlin, Siobhan McManamy, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Markets & Partnerships, said: “We are delighted to be at ITB Berlin this week, one of the world’s leading travel trade fairs, joined by 21 tourism businesses from across Ireland.”
“ITB provides an invaluable platform to showcase what Ireland has to offer and to strengthen relationships with influential international tour operators and travel agents.”
“Germany is our largest tourism market in Mainland Europe. This week we will be showcasing ease of access and great places to stay, as well as the rich culture, history and outdoor experiences that make our destination so appealing to German visitors.”
Due to the Government’s new Action Plan on Market Diversification, they aim to increase the grow spend from Mainland European visitors from €2 billion to €3 billion by 2031.
