ROSSES Radio has found a new home.
The station’s 34 volunteers were left devastated last month when it emerged they would have to vacate the premises they had been in since 2012.
Following weeks of searching the popular station has been granted permission to use the old Meenmore NS building.
“This is somewhere I have had my heart set on. My mum and my grandmother were both pupils at Meenmore so I’ve been on a bit of quest,” station director Carol Ann Webb told the Donegal News this week.
The next challenge for the Rosses Radio team will be bringing the premises back into use as it has been derelict for decades. To aid the refurbishment and refitting a Go Fund Me campaign will launch this weekend.
Despite the building’s dilapidated condition though Carol Ann Web says she is excited about seeing it come together.
Opened in the early part of the 20th century Meenmore National School was most recently utilised by the Crickamore Band. But they have not used in recent years either and have agreed to the setting up of the radio station.
“I talked to committee members of the Crickamore Band and they are willing to let us have it. But we have to get the electricity reconnected, get broadband installed and the roof needs some work,” said Ms Webb.
Despite the obstacles volunteers are determined to return to the airwaves. If things go according to plan that could happen as soon as the end of this month.
“It’s our dream come true to have our own state of the art station,” Carol Ann Webb said.
“This only happened on Saturday but I haven’t stopped since, talking to people and calling in favours. Ideally I would hope to see us back by the end of the month and we are launching a major Go Fund Me drive this weekend.
“It’s so exciting and the fact that we are resurrecting a historic community building that was central to the lives of people in this area only adds to the excitement.”
