Kyle agrees Norwich City deal

BY AIDAN O’DONNELL
SWILLY Rovers starlet Kyle Callan-McFadden has agreed to join newly-promoted Premier League side Norwich City on a three-year scholarship.

The 16-year-old was offered the contract by Academy Manager Ricky Martin and Kyle will now head over on July 3 to pen a deal that will tie him to the Canaries until July, 2014.

Kyle had been over and back a couple of times to the Norfolk-based club but, after impressing in a weekend tournament in Guernsey last month, Academy chief Martin wasted no time in approaching the young Ramelton prospect, who is a natural centre-half.

Speaking to the Donegal News this week, Kyle’s father, Paul, revealed that he had enjoyed successful trials with several different clubs across channel and that it didn’t take much persuading for him to pen a deal with the Carrow Road outfit.

Church Lane 'Ghetto'

BY CATHERINE COOK
THE owner of a long-established bakery and cafe in Letterkenny has moved to allay local speculation that the popular eatery is closing.

However, Kevin Keeney, the owner of Bakersville on the town’s Church Lane has said that the complete neglect of the area by the Local Authority is placing his business under severe pressure.

“Effectively the Town Council have allowed the Church Lane to turn into a ghetto and a location for people to drink and take drugs. The buildings up here are in a complete state of disrepair.”

Mr Keeney said that despite numerous promises, what should be one of the nicest streets in the town has been totally ignored among other efforts to regenerate the town centre.

Documentary will raise 'serious questions'

BY SEÁN P. FEENY
One of the documentaries showing at this year’s sixth Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival will raise a lot of ‘serious questions’ amongst the people of Donegal according to one of the festival co-directors.

Windfall, which is being screened at the festival on Saturday, June 22 (3pm), focuses on wind energy and its positive and negative effects on a small community.

With the ongoing discussions regarding the pros and cons of this form of energy, especially in west Donegal, this is a film that shouldn’t be missed.

Festical co-director Neasa Ní Chianáin said: “The documentary is set in a small Upstate New York town called Meredith and follows what happened when Irish company Airtricity acquired land to build 400ft high wind turbines.

“Through personal stories and debate it discusses the pros and cons of wind energy, which will be of great interest to the people of Donegal.
