AUSTEJA Auciute remains on course for an eighth national title.
The 17-year old Ballybofey woman is through to the 64kgs final of the National Under 22 Championships.
On Friday night at the National Stadium in Dublin, Auciute overcame Sparticus BC fighter Grainne Walsh in the semi-final.
Auciute was the unanimous 3-0 victor in another superb display of ring craft from the St Columba’s College student. It sends her into Saturday evening’s final at the same venue and with seven national crowns already to her name she’ll head for the capital in confident tune.
Auciute had previous with Saturday’s opponent, Walsh. In May, Auciute defeated Walsh 6-2 in the semi-finals of the Irish Under 18 Championships.
Now, the Finn Valley ABC queen as the Under 22 title on her radar. On Saturday, she gloves off with Kilfenora’s Kayleigh McCormack who took a unanimous decision in her bout with Shanice Just from Grangecon.
There was disappointment for two male boxers from Donegal who were in National Under 22 Championship. John Cassidy of Illies was beaten by Ryston’s Stephen Treacy at 49kgs and Orin McDermott from Finn Valley lost out to All Saints’ Vincent Esler in the 64kgs class.
