LAST week, Saturday, November 15, I ran my very first D.I.Y fashion styling workshop in the town in Ramelton. As many of you know I often write about different D.I.Y ideas in my columns and share up-cycling ideas on my blog.
I often get emails for readers asking how I had up-cycled something that I had featured on my Facebook page so I knew that there was definitely room for a creative and unique workshop like this.
Thankfully it was a success and the ladies who attended gave me some very positive feedback and enjoyed the workshop.
They were a really creative and friendly group of girls and for some it was their very first time to up-cycle or re-style their clothes.
On the day they up-cycled winter accessories such as hats, gloves and scarves, as well as transforming old clutch bags by adding some details and embellishment.
They also added lace, pearls, beads, jewels and various other materials to old winter jumpers and cardigans that they wanted to change and brighten up.
At the end they said they felt that they had a whole new winter wardrobe and they couldn’t wait to wear their D.I.Y garments over the Christmas period.
I would like to thank the girls who attended, they were a lovely group to start off my workshops with and I hope to run many more in the future.
Last week I showed you how to up-cycle and embellish your old drab winter jumpers and this week I have decided to show you how to transform your winter accessories focusing on hats and gloves and how you can update them for the cold months ahead.
The girls who took part in my workshop couldn’t believe how easy this was and were delighted with the end products. Try these two ideas I have featured today to keep you stylish as well warm over the Christmas period.
DIY Winter Hat
Are you a hat person? I love bundling up in the winter. Give this DIY idea a go to revamp your old winter hats.
What you will need:
A plain hat
Jewels, beads, sequins or pearls.
Glue – use E6000 glue or a glue gun.
Step by Step guide:
Step 1: Lay your hat or beanie on a piece on newspaper on the table and start placing your jewels and beads on top of it in a design you like.
Step 2: Once you are happy with your design and layout start gluing on each individual bead TIP: tweezers come in really handy helping place the smaller beads carefully on the glue.
Step 3: You must work fast as the glue will start to dry quickly. Also make sure that you have placed a scrap of material inside the hat to prevent it from sticking together!!
Step 4: Leave your hat to dry for a few hours in a safe place and voila you have a brand new winter ear warmer to keep cosy in over the Christmas period!
DIY Gloves
What you will need:
A plain pair of gloves.
Beads, pearls, diamonds, sequins
Glue – E6000 or a glue in
How to create: This is pretty much the same technique as the DIY winter hat idea. You simply glue on or sew your beads, pearls and little diamonds directly onto your gloves. Leave to dry for a couple of hours in a safe place and you are done!
