Arranmore RNLI assisted yacht with engine trouble

The Arranmore RNLI volunteer crew were asked by Malin Head Coast Guard to assist an 11 meter yacht with two crew on board, two miles off Arranmore yesterday evening just  after 5pm.

On arrival at the stricken yacht, which had developed engine trouble and following assessment by the lifeboat crew a tow was established and the yacht was towed to the safety of Burtonport Harbour. The lifeboat returned to anchor at Arranmore at 7.35pm following refuelling.

Crew members on board the lifeboat were; Coxswain Jimmy Early, relief mechanic, Thomas Davis, Kieran O’Donnell, Sean O’Donnell, Sharon O’Donnell, Evan O’Donnell, Finbar Gallagher.

Coxswain Jimmy Early said the crew did the right thing asking for help.

“Weather conditions at the time were favourable with a light southerly wind and a half meter swell. The crew of the yacht did exactly the right thing in asking for assistance and as a 24/7 emergency service we are happy to respond.”
