The volunteer crew of the Arranmore RNLI responded to an early morning call for assistance at 6.50am this morning.
The crew were requested by Malin Head Coast Guard to assist in a medical evacuation from the island. The casualty was transferred from the Arranmore ambulance to the lifeboat, taken to a waiting ambulance in Burtonport and then transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital for assessment and treatment.
Coxswain/Afloat mechanic Ciaran Doyle from Wicklow, who is currently serving as relief coxswain on Arranmore, said: “I’ve been to Arranmore before and this is the first call out I’ve served with the island lifeboat.
“I would like to thank the crew of the lifeboat and the ambulance for their professionalism. Their knowledge of the operating area is commendable and their willingness to answer the call any time of day or night is a true example of the volunteer ethos of the RNLI.”
Ciaran has volunteered with his local lifeboat in Wicklow for 40 years and is now a full time Coxswain Afloat Mechanic (CAM) with the RNLI in the Ireland division
