A SPOKESPERSON for the army described the operation involving a device placed on a vehicle, outside a house in Carrigart, as “ongoing” at lunch time today (Friday).

Meanwhile a garda confirmed that the device placed on a caravan outside a house belonging to recently elected Independent Cllr John O’Donnell, taken away by the army’s bomb squad, was viable.

“The device has been made safe and has been taken away by the army EOD team for further investigation. Gardai are also investigating,” she said.

The army bomb disposal unit and the gardai had sealed off the area.

Cllr O’Donnell got a call from gardai overnight saying they had received intelligence from the PSNI that a device had been left at a caravan belonging to him.
