GARDAI are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery at Burt Post Office which took place yesterday (Thursday) morning.
A Northern Ireland registered Skoda Octavia car pulled-up outside the premises at Speenogue at around 11.30 am.
Two masked men entered the post office and one of them, believed to have been armed with a handgun, jumped over the counter and threatened the Post Mistress, Ms Eileen McBride.
Ms McBride was forced to hand over an undisclosed sum of cash before the two men left the premises and made good their escape in the Bridgend direction.
Inspector David Murphy of Buncrana Garda Station, who is leading the investigation, said Ms McBride was “extremely shaken” and traumatised as a result of the incident.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in area from 11.15 am to 11.45 am to contact us at Buncrana or Burnfoot Garda Stations,” Insp Murphy said.
“We would especially appeal to people who may have seen a light coloured red saloon car with a Northern Ireland taxi plate at the rear.
“No one was physically hurt, however, the Post Mistress was extremely shaken and traumatised by the experience.”
