Renovation works are almost complete, with one and two-bedroom student apartments almost ready to come on stream for the short stay market.

A show apartment is currently open for viewing.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Barry Connor, Porthouse Apartments, said he expects interest to be “significant”.

“We hope to have eight or nine apartments ready for this week and the rest shortly after.”

The apartments were originaly built for long term leases.

As the apartments are too big for single occupancy, Mr Connor said all bedrooms will be twin occupancy.

However, he said there will be a number of measures rolled out to ensure suitability.

“In making their application, people can apply with their fellow student friends. The rooms will be occupied by same sex people and people of a similar age. We will be placing, for example, third year students with other third year students.

“We will be selective about who we offer the accommodation to, based on a number of stipulations including that the students are affiliated with ATU.

“We have invested a lot of money into this project and we really want it to work, particularly given the shortage of student accommodation locally.”

The apartments are a two minute walk from ATU campus, available five nights a week with wifi and utilities included.
Mr Connor said the service is an overarching one.

“Our service will operate over five days a week. There will be no access to the apartments at the weekend. We will provide fresh bed linen and towels and a full clean of the apartment, access will therefore be between Sunday to Friday. Wifi and utilities are included.

“We put the information on a blog and out into the public domain earlier this week and people are beginning to bite now. I expect interest to be significant,” said Mr Connor.

The show apartment is now open for viewing by appointment.
