Aonair to perform debut  show in Letterkenny tomorrow night

By Dionne Meehan

LETTERKENNY man Brendan McGlynn, aka Aonair, is bringing his dynamic live show to the Regional Cultural Centre for the first time tomorrow night.

Since its creation over two years ago, Aonair is one of Ireland’s most exciting and promising acts.

Brendan’s sound combines lush 80s inspired electronic production with rich reverbs, huge drum sounds and soaring vocal melodies to create dreamy but powerful sound.

Brendan takes inspiration from staple acts such as Tears for Fears, The Blue Nile and Flock of Seagulls, combining it with the modern production style of The 1975, War on Drugs and Sam Fender.

Loving music from an early age, soon it became his everything.

But after spending years performing with Indie bands in Dublin, Brendan wanted to create something more theatrical.

“Aonair is something glam, sparkly and larger than life,” Brendan told the Donegal News.

“The idea behind it came out of the pandemic when everything was so small and isolated.

“I wanted to try and make something that was really big and expansive.”

Working on his current show for almost two years, Brendan said the project is very connected to being home in Donegal.

“I usually go to Rathmullan every January and February, I spend that time writing the music I will release that year,” he said.

Now looking forward to performing in his hometown tomorrow night, Brendan said those attending are in for a treat.

“It is a very big production,” he said.

“It is much more than just a concert, it is more of a theatrical show.

“It is larger than life, something that is not really your average experience when you go to see a gig.”

And what better time for his debut show in Letterkenny than at Christmas.

“It is great because at Christmas time there’s even more people home and you get to see them,” he said.

Doors for the show will open at 8pm and a host of local talent will be supporting Aonair on the night.

Tickets for the performance can be purchased on the Regional Cultural Centre’s website: https://regionalculturalcentre.com/events/aonair-presents-comedown-a-live-show/
