ANTI-ABORTION activists are continuing to protest outside GP clinics in Donegal.
Around a dozen protesters holding placards gathered outside Lifford Community Hospital on Saturday morning, the second time this month they have picketed the facility.
‘Love Both’ campaigner Margaret McGeehan said they chose the location after learning that a local doctor is among hundreds across the State willing to engage in the abortion process.
“When you ring the helpline, you are given a list of doctors providing the abortion tablet and one of the doctors here is named on that list. So we decided to hold a silent vigil outside this surgery to be the voice of the unborn child,” Ms McGeehan said.
Veteran abortion services campaigner Ailbhe Smyth recently called on Minister for Health Simon Harris to introduce legislation for ‘exclusion zones’ around medical practices offering terminations.
Ms Smyth said the move would protect GPs and ensure that “women are safe and their rights protected”.
Margaret McGeehan said however their intentions were entirely peaceful and simply about keeping the ‘Love Both’ campaign in the public arena.

“We are here to let people know our people know our opposition to the law as it stands. It is an unjust law where abortion is being made available up to ten weeks for no reason. We believe that is wrong and it is evil and we feel it is our duty to speak out against it.
“This is a human being we are talking about and human beings deserve respect and dignity. And just because that human being is in the womb where it isn’t seen, some people feel it is fine to dispose of it.
“We are the voice of that human being, of the unborn child and we want to keep reminding people that just because something is now legal, that does not make it right,” Ms McGeehan added.
Similar protests have been held in Falcarragh and Bundoran.
