There is no doubt about the amazing powerhouse of talent that is Rhys Irwin with his second win of the season at Brands Hatch British Superbikes making that his fifth podium in succession.
The Supersport Premier Championship has had a new lease of life with such amazing World Class talent. Rhys is now only 6 points off the championship leader heading into round 7 at Thruxton in two weeks time has everything to race for.
FP1 & FP2 went smoothly with Rhys setting the pace on Friday.
Heading into qualifying, Rhys felt confident putting his Astro JJR Suzuki on the front row of the grid in P2. Race 1 was declared a wet race with very slippery conditions for all racers.
Rhys rode an intelligent race with no tested wet settings and went over the finish line in P4 mindful of his Championship standing. Sunday dawned dry and with a solid morning warm up, Rhys and his team made some minor adjustments to start Race 2 from P2 on the grid. Rhys took an early lead riding a brave race to hold off the advances of experienced racers Ben Currie and Tom Booth-Amos to take the chequered flag.
“I am just so happy I don’t know what to say”, a jubilant Rhys told Shakey Byrne.
“I am just so grateful for all the help and support that I get. I work so hard to succeed I know that I need to keep focused and just work harder than ever. I have so little experience leading a Supersport race so I’m learning every round, but Currie’s bike is so fast that I knew I had to take the lead and stay in front.”
