FIANNA Fail’s Patrick McGowan has been returned to Donegal County Council on the seventh count in the Stranorlar Electoral Area.
He joined Gary Doherty of Sinn Fein and Independent candidate, Frank McBrearty who both exceeded the quota in the first count.
Following the distribution of McGowan’s 100 surplus votes in the eight count, Independent candidate Alan McMenamin was eliminated and his 424 votes distributed.
He joined Claudia Kennedy (FF) and Charlotte McDyer of the People Before Profit party who were eliminated earlier.
Following the ninth, and final count, Sinn Fein’s second candidate, Liam Doherty from Convoy, was elected to the council for the first time after exceeding the quota for 40 votes.
The final two Stranorlar seats were filled by sitting councillors, Martin Harley (FG) and Fianna Fail’s Gerry Crawford. They were elected without reaching the quota.
