Anger over dog attacks on flocks of sheep in Falcarragh

THERE is widespread anger in west Donegal as two flocks of sheep in separate fields were attacked by dogs in recent days.

The sheep farmers, based in Falcarragh, were left devastated as the attacks have led to one ewe being killed and the loss of further unborn lambs in the midst of lambing season.

Local Councillor Michael McClafferty has shared his anger following the incidents, particularly with the owners of the dogs responsible for the two serious attacks.

“Two local hard working sheep farmers in the Falcarragh area are left reeling, feeling the loss and damage to their flocks of sheep,” he said,

He described the incidents as a “snapshot” of the destruction a loose dog can cause on a flock of sheep.

In recent weeks Cllr McClafferty had raised concerns over a loose dog wandering in the Derryreel area of Falcarragh.

At the time he urged farmers to be vigilant and dog owners to ensure their dogs are supervised.

“Loose dogs cab cause chaos, worrying sheep and potentially causing accidents,.

“To residents, please ensure your dogs are supervised. A friendly dog can quickly become a danger if it gets loose.

“Let’s work together to keep our community safe,” he said.
