Anger over burning of Sliabh Liag bench

A tour company has expressed disappointment following the burning of a bench at the beauty spot.

It is believed a barbecue may have led to the damage.

Writing on their Facebook page Sliabh Liag Experience said, “We were disappointed to discover one of our picnic benches in ashes, some visitors to our beautiful site decided to enjoy a barbecue.

“All that was left of the bench were the bolt fittings.

“Thankfully the heather did not catch fire, as we all know Sliabh Liag is a special area of conservation and devastation like this could have serious implications for sheep farmers, their livelihoods and the wildlife particularly during lambing and nesting seasons.”

CCTV is being examined and gardaí have been notified.
