An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny will be the setting for a concert on Friday, June 9 which is being organised by broadcaster, author and chaplain the Rev Jim Lamont.
With a line-up of popular local artists it promises to be an entertaining evening of easy listening music, amusing stories and “good craic”, along with some of Mr Lamont’s legendary yarns and thoughts.
The enigmatic title of the evening with the Rev Jim and friends is A Donegal Farewell – but for now Mr Lamont refuses to elaborate on what this might involve.
All he will say is all will be revealed on the night.
Isobell Rodgers chairperson of Donegal Hospice, said they were very grateful to Mr Lamont for organising the concert, which will be a fundraiser for the hospice.
“The Rev Jim has been a faithful friend and active supporter of Donegal Hospice for more than 20 years and we are delighted that he has decided to organise this concert.
“Although he’s calling this a Donegal Farewell, we trust this will not be the last we see of him,” she said.
Among the local singers who will be performing are two from Manorcunningham – songwriter Amy Meehan and singer Dianne Leckey.
Andrea Long from Ballybofey will be performing, plus father and daughter combo Hugh P and Maria Doherty from Buncrana.
Two of the acts are coming from Newtownards, where Mr Lamont once served as minister.
They are Karen Glass plus friends from Regent Street Church and Diane Holt, a singer who formed her own choir and later worked with Tear Fund and now Thrive Worldwide, a Christian organisation.
Diane, who will be performing with her daughter Iona at the concert, was the first manager of The Link outreach centre in Newtownards, based in The Lamont Building – named after Mr Lamont by Regent Street Church.
The Rev Jim, a regular broadcaster on Highland Radio, said he was grateful to all the performers for agreeing to participate.
He is the author of three popular books, the latest of which is Highland Hope.
He also broadcasts a Sunday morning service on Highland every other week.
So far his latest book, Highland Hope, has raised €25,000 for Donegal Hospice.
The Rev Jim is senior minister of Dunfanaghy and Carrigart Presbyterian Churches and acts as the Presbyterian chaplain in Donegal Hospice and Letterkenny University Hospital.
Last year, he served as Vacancy Convenor in Burt and Inch.
Tickets for the concert are priced at €15 and are on sale at the An Grianan box office and online.
The concert starts at 8pm.
