Planning permission for the redevelopment of a site in Creeslough where 10 people lost their lives in 2022 has been refused.
An Bord Pleanala has overturned Donegal County Council’s decision to grant permission for the development of a shop and filling station on the site.
Ten people were killed in the Creeslough explosion in October 2022. A number of others were injured.
Donegal County Council had granted planning permission in February of this year to applicant Vivo Shell Limited for the development of a new service station. The works comprised demolition of the existing building and a memorial garden.
A number of bereaved families lodged an appeal to the plans, and today An Bord Pleanála has refused the permission given the green light by Donegal County Council.
Citing their refusal, An Bord Pleanála cited the “inappropriate siting of the memorial within the development” among reasons for its refusal.
