‘An absolute disgrace’ – Tar dumped at local beauty spot

By Diarmaid Doherty

A Donegal councillor has slammed those responsible for dumping tar on the side of the road at one of the county’s most scenic locations.

The tar was dumped in the days before Christmas on the road close to Dunlewey at the foot of Errigal Mountain.

Cllr. Micheál Choilm mac Giolla Easbaig said the incident shows a lack of respect to the people of the area who do their best to ensure the area is kept clean and tidy.

“It’s an absolute disgrace that this could happen”, he said.

“It’s bad enough for it to happen on a public road, but when you think that this is such a beautiful location. It’s on the road that overlooks the

Poisoned Glen and the beautiful lake and it’s right at the foot of Errigal.

“This is something that’s been happening in other parts of the county for way too long now.

“In fairness to Donegal County Council, the Environment and Roads Sections came together some years ago to try and deal with this problem.

“I’ve been highlighting incidents like this for some time now, and this latest episode is another example of something that simply shouldn’t be happening.”
