American folk group The Kennedys for Ballybofey

The Kennedys.

The Kennedys.

THE latest in a line of folk/roots/Americana music to visit The Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey are The Kennedys this Saturday, May 18.

Although this is their first Irish tour they’ve been around for over two decades stateside touring with and drawing kudos from the likes of Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle and Roger McGuinn from The Byrds. That’s pretty impressive company to be keeping.

This tour marks the release of their eleventh album entitled Closer Than You Know. It’s another gig from Roadworks Tours – the people responsible for the recent Birds Of Chicago gig.

And with a duo that Rolling Stone calls ‘Irresistable’ and the Chicago Sun-Times describe as having ‘More hooks than Marilyn Monroe’s closet’ this looks like another crowd pleasing concert.

The Donegal News even received a call from as far way as New York City from our Gortward Celtic Jazz Lady, Tara O’Grady, who wanted to ensure that Donegal music fans don’t miss their chance to see The Kennedys.

Tara met folk duo, Pete and Maura, at a recent tribute concert held in honour of Rosanne Cash, daughter of Johnny, in New York.

The Kennedys play The Balor Arts Centre, Ballybofey, this Saturday, May 18, at 8.30pm. Admission is €15. Call Tel 07491 31840 for bookings.
