AMBER Barrett scored the winning goal against Scotland in Hampden Park tonight to send the Republic of Ireland Women’s team to the World Cup for the first time.
The Milford woman came off the bench in the play-off and expertly finished to the net in the 72nd minute.
Barrett immediately pointed to her black armband which the Irish team wore as a mark of respect to those who died in the Creeslough tragedy last Friday. She has close family ties to the Creeslough area.
Ireland held on in a tense finish to win, and the victory sees them qualify for the World Cup next year in Australia and New Zealand.
Ciara Grant (Letterkenny) and Roma McLaughlin (Greencastle) are also part of the Ireland squad.
