Almost 5,000 vaccinated in Letterkenny centre

ALMOST 5,000 people were vaccinated in the Letterkenny last week.
Figures show that in the past week (13-19 December), the team at the Letterkenny Covid Vaccination Centre vaccinated in excess of 4,700 people.
Letterkenny vaccination centre is continuing with the ‘boost the boosters’ campaign, managing appointments and walk-ins for first, second and third booster vaccine doses as the HSE ramps up capacity. Many more people were also vaccinated in health clinics and pharmacies in the town.
It comes as the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said yesterday that one in six young people were still not vaccinated and that one million people over the age of 40 had not yet come forward for their booster dose.
Dr Holohan said Ireland was facing a ‘very significant surge’ of cases of Covid, with a rapid rise in the infection rates among those aged from 16 to 34 years.
“Vaccines really work, particularly when boosted, in preventing infection from becoming a severe infection and we expect that to be the case with Omicron,” Dr Holohan said.
The Chief Medical Officer added that the vaccine programme was continuing with records being broken every day.
For those hoping to get their booster ahead of Christmas, a full list of walk-in vaccination centres has been published by the HSE.
The Letterkenny walk-in centre is providing booster vaccines for those over 40. It is also offering boosters for healthcare workers as well as doses one and two of the Covid-19 vaccine.
OPening times
Walk-in clinics continue today, Thursday, from 8am to 7.30pm and tomorrow, Christmas Eve, from 8am to 11am. The centre will be closed on Saturday December 25 and Sunday December 26, and will reopen on Monday, December 27.
