TRUCKING for Creeslough organiser, Colin Kilpatrick has handed over a staggering amount of money to those involved in the Creeslough tragedy.
Raising a whopping €118,045 from the event, Colin handed over a cheque to Creeslough man, Gerard McFadden who is the founder of the McFadden Go Fund Me Trust.
The fundraiser, which was described by Colin as being a “major success”, took place in February.
A convoy of lorries took off from Donegal Road in Ballybofey, travelling through the Twin Towns and on to Letterkenny.
The convoy travelled through Termon and onto Creeslough, where participants stopped to lay a wreath at the site of the explosion.
The trucks then travelled to the Silver Tassie Hotel, where there was an auction and a dance.
Colin, who is a truck driver himself, was one of the first at the scene of the Creeslough tragedy.
He was delivering compost to Homeland across the road from Applegreen when the explosion took place.
Ten people lost their lives in the explosion last year.
Dean McLaughlin and Patrick Long organised the event alongside Colin in a bid to give back to the families of the victims.
Colin said it was a big relief to hand over the money but he took pride in the amount that was raised.
“I never thought it would be so successful, there were a couple of hundred more lorries than I thought and €100,000 more raised than I thought,” he said.
