All set for Relay For Life charity event

By Paul McElwee

FINAL preparations are underway ahead of this weekend’s Relay For Life charity event.

Taking place over 24 hours at the grounds of ATU Letterkenny, the Donegal Relay For Life, whose ambassadors are our own Daniel and Majella O’Donnell, will begin at 4pm on Saturday.

It is the largest cancer fundraiser across the globe and has been a part of Donegal life since 2012.

Organised by the Irish Cancer Society, the event is designed to raise money to assist cancer survivors, those currently dealing with cancer as well as the loved ones lost to the disease.

The Donegal International Car Push, a curtain-raiser to Saturday’s event and the first since 2017, took place on Wednesday at Divers Hyundai Garage.

It saw car dealers, drivers and gyms taking to the roads in a broken down vehicle rally, literally pushing them to their absolute limit around an arduous 5k route.

As part of Relay for Life, the Candle of Hope ceremony will take place at dusk on Saturday. Candles of Hope are on sale at different venues and can be purchased on the day for what is always a very emotional ceremony.

There’s still time to register a team for the event which can be done through visiting online at https://www.relayforlife.ie/event/donegal/home.

Anyone unable to attend the event but who wishes to donate to this most worthy of causes can do so also at the above link.
