All-Ireland Bronze for Evan Ward at Multi Events

Rosses AC had four of our club juveniles made the journey yesterday to Abbotstown Dublin to take part in the All-Ireland Indoor Multi Events competition.

Multi Events have grown in popularity in recent months following the brilliant success of by Kate O’Connor last summer and culminating in September with her winning a Heptathlon silver medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Multi Events requires all athletes to complete five events of 60m Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt and 800m. In the U14 section Rosie Breslin and Caitlin Sweeney both had this first outing at multi events. Both performed really well with Rosie 16th and Caitlin 19th in a strong field of 30 competitors. Rosie achieved a great new PB jumping 1:45m in the High Jump. Caitlin showed she knows this is an events that with additional focus and practice will suit her. Both learned a lot on the day and their coaches are confident both will come back and be better prepared and ready to compete in these events later in the summer.

In the U16 girls Aileen Logue was flying the Rosses AC flag. It was always going to be tough as she has limited experience at hurdles but competed well in all other events winning her 800m heat to finish in the top 15 and enjoyed the day out and competing at this early point in the season.

In the U16 boys Evan Ward had hopes for a medal but gave everyone a scare with two failed attempts in the first event which was Long Jump but did manage to get one jump in on his last attempt. Securing a PB of 1:70m in the High Jump as well as a PB of 2:06:87 in the 800m ensured a bronze All Ireland medal and only 100 points off silver. Well done to Evan and a great start to the year. Well done to all who travelled and especially the parents who were there to support.

Recently at the Lough 5 mile a big crowd of over 1100 people raced over 5 miles just outside of Omagh where Rosses Maria McGee was first Lady and 8th overall in a superb time of 28:37. Another strong performance and we are sure many more to come this year. With Dungloe Parkrun cancelled Bernie Boyle took in the Falcarragh Parkrun coming in 3rd in 20:32.

Please note our Rosses AC Awards Night will be held on Saturday January 31 at the Waterfront Dungloe. It’s time for our senior and master athletes to take off the trainers and put on the dancing shoes. Music in the lounge after the meal. Please can you let club captains or any committee member know who’s going for numbers. Should be a fun night. All welcome.
