St. Eunan’s College, Letterkenny has won a top prize at the inaugural AIB Future Sparks School Impact Awards.
The awards, celebrating schools that give back to the community, took place in Croke Park on Wednesday, having received a staggering 123 submissions from 103 schools across the country.
Transition Year students at St. Eunan’s College initiated an environmental action plan, organising litter picks, idling campaigns, and promoting sustainable transportation.
Their efforts not only earned them the Caring for the Environment award from the Tidy Towns committee in Letterkenny and raised €1,420 for Unicef and Donegal Hospice, but they were also among the schools honoured at last week’s big event in Dublin.
Schools across Ireland showcased their amazing work to contribute to the betterment of their communities when they gathered at Croke Park. The event was hosted by digital creator, presenter, and actor Muinteoir John Sharpson.
The AIB Future Sparks School Impact Awards centre on three key pillars of activity: Environmental, Social, and Financial. These pillars encompass a wide range of activities that contribute to the betterment of communities, including volunteering, fundraising, awareness campaigns, mentoring, peer education, skills-sharing, and environmental conservation.
