Addiction recovery café to open in Letterkenny

by Louise Doyle

A POP-up café for those in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction is to open in Letterkenny.

The ‘3C’s’ Café (coffee, courage and chat) is a new initiative of Alcohol Forum Ireland. It will work with people in recovery who have raised the lack of alcohol free social spaces in the evening as a challenge for many, particularly those navigating early recovery.

The first event takes place on Thursday, October 19, from 5pm to 7pm in Chill Out Café, Lower Main Street.

Paula Leonard, CEO of Alcohol Forum Ireland said the initiative will help people in recovery take leadership.

“Over the past few months, we have been approached by number of people in recovery and this initiative is a result of conversations that began during the summer months. The ‘Three C’s Café will be a great way to make connections with others on a recovery pathway and we hope that it will help build recovery capital here in the county.”

The café will run once a month until Christmas, with plans for it to continue in the new year.

“We are open to running similar events in other parts of the county but that will all depend on the energy and what interest there is as this movement grows. Many of the families that we work with have transformed their lives, particularly the lives of children where parental alcohol and other drug use has been a challenge to family life. Their courage in coming to our programmes and working through things takes a lot of courage. The café is just one more support here in the county for people at various stages of the recovery journey.”

While the Café is primarily for people in recovery and their family members, all are welcome to come along.

People can contact our new family support worker Tom at ‘Thomas@alcoholforum.org’ or they can simply drop by on the day.
