LATER this month The Acorn Players Mohill in County Leitrim will present Jimmy Kearey’s The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley An Grianán, Letterkenny.
The directors and driving force behind this production are Mohillians Anella McGuinness and Padraig Mcloughlin. Both have two of the main parts in this very funny play by Jimmy Kearey.
In a recent article all about Jimmy, the Sunday Independent called him ‘The most successful play-write you never heard of’.
His plays – mostly comedies – have been performed all over Ireland but The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley is the funniest and the most popular. Recently the troupe filled Galway’s Town Hall Theatre for two nights running and they have been filling Halls all over the midlands with merry cheer wherever they go.
One small village filled their large Auditorium twice with the same audience – they couldn’t get enough of Gabriel Foley. One audience member said ‘We would all go again if you came next week’ and that was the general consensus wherever they played.
Phillip Flood is a Cavan man and expertly plays the part of the outlandish Liam. The remaining stars are all from the Mohill area, Martina Ward plays Gabriel’s long suffering mother.
Máire Canning is the uppidey Hazel, Mary Farrelly the collapsible Lucy and Dave Price the love-struck Clive Snell.
The Acorn Players Mohill come to An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. Call Tel 07491 20777 or log onto www.angrianan.com for tickets.
