NEWLY re-elected Fine Gael Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh recently welcomed confirmation from the manager of Bus Éireann that Route 64 bus services from Letterkenny to Galway Bus stations will be wheelchair accessible from June 23.
The wheelchair accessible route will include Ballyshannon and Sligo Bus Stations.
Cllr Kavanagh had raised the issue at a meeting in April when he was promised by Bus Éireann the accessibility issue would be sorted by the summer.
The Bus Éireann Performance Manager Keith Heavey informed Cllr Kavanagh: “I am delighted to share some good news regarding our public transport services in the region. Starting from the June 23, Route 64 will become wheelchair accessible at key end-to-end points.
“This significant enhancement aims to improve the inclusivity and convenience of our services for all passengers. The following stops will be marked as accessible in both directions: Letterkenny Bus Station; Ballyshannon; Sligo Bus Station and Galway Bus Station
“As the National Transport Authority and Local Authorities roll out upgrading existing stops infrastructure to safe and accessible stops across the country, we would like to build upon this initial list of stops.
“If you have updates of any developments or improvements in infrastructure at existing stops in Donegal county that are served by route 64, please let me know so we can assess these stops for inclusion in our accessible routes,” he said.
