Access slipway for River Swilly ‘urgently needed’

THE immediate need for a slipway in Letterkenny to allow search and rescue personnel access the river was raised by Cllr Gerry McMonagle at this month’s Letterkenny Milford Municipal District meeting.

The councillor put down a motion that the OPW identify and construct an access site between the town bridges so a boat can be launched.

“The nearest place to launch a boat if the tide is out is Ramelton. The river runs through Letterkenny and we do not have an access slipway there. Having to go to Ramelton is scandalous. I would call on the OPW to put a bit of urgency on this.”

The motion was seconded by Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh.

In response the council executive replied that the motion would be relayed to the OPW.
