St Columba’s College 0 Abbey Vocational School 1
Abbey Vocational School held on for a narrow victory over St Columba’s College, Stranorlar in the Tom Ticher Junior Ulster Cup Final in Leckview Park on Monday.
In windy conditions making it tricky to play on the Astro surface, chances were hard come by, with Declan Patton having a few efforts for the Stranorlar side, while Ryan Quinn had an effort hit the crossbar for the Abbey.
The Donegal Town school did break the deadlock five minutes before the break however as an effort from the corner of the box by Jack Bennett on the right wing curled over Columba’s ‘keeper Noah Boyle and into the far corner of the net.
The second half saw St Columba’s push for an equaliser, as Patton, Jamie Gavigan and Ronan McHugh all threatened, but Thomas O’Donoghue kept his clean sheet as the Abbey held on for the win.
They will now face Wexford CBS in the All-Ireland semi-final on Thursday, March 13, with the venue tbc.
