Aaron McLaughlin nets late as Harps draw with league leaders

Dundalk 1 Finn Harps 1

A late Aaron McLaughlin goal saw Finn Harps extend their unbeaten run to six games with a draw against league leaders Dundalk in Oriel Park.

The Harps had a golden chance early on when Dara McGuinness found Gavin McAteer from six yards out but the Milford man skied his effort over the bar as Dundalk dominated the opening half, with Mayowa Animasahun, Andy Paraschiv and Daryl Horgan all going close.

It was a stalemate at the break but again Kevin McHugh’s men started bright, Peter Cherrie pulling off a brilliant double save when McGuinness should have scored the rebound, as he also denied McAteer and Gavin Hodgins.

But again the league leaders went on the hunt for a goal and they got it with ten minutes to go as Vincent Leonard headed in from Sean Keogh’s corner.

It looked like ending that way but as Sean Keogh’s back pass to Cherrie was short, Aaron McLaughlin nipped in and poked the ball past Cherrie and in off the post on the 91st minute.

Finn Harps are away again on Friday night as they travel to St Colman’s Park to face Cobh Ramblers.
