THE contribution of Letterkenny Rovers to the local community over many years was celebrated this evening as the club was honoured with a civic reception by the council.
Hosted by the Mayor of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Cllr. Ciaran Brogan, the event was attended by club members and the management and players from the Letterkenny Rovers treble winning team from last season.
However, as Mayor Brogan pointed out, the civic reception was more than just about marking the achievements of the Rovers team, but more so to celebrate all that the club has achieved, both on and off the pitch, over many seasons.
He complimented the committee members and volunteers who have given their time for Rovers, and helped to deliver the wonderful facilities at Leckview Park.
And he took time to remember many of the former club members who have since passed away and who had been valued members of Letterkenny Rovers.
Among those mentioned was Victor Fisher who passed away recently. A former council colleague of Mayor Brogan, Victor was a former President of the club.
Rovers chairman, Eamonn McConigley said to receive a civic reception was a wonderful honour for the club.
He thanked the council members present for the support they have shown over many seasons and insisted that their contributions over many years are always appreciated.

Eamonn said Letterkenny Rovers had grown in membership as the town itself has grown and pointed to the dramatic rise in the number of teams now playing for the club.
The facilities at Leckview have improved, he added, and are now able to cater for those teams – and more importantly, the community of Letterkenny.
Stephen McConnell, Letterkenny Rovers manager, also spoke, and paid tribute to the players for their fantastic achievements last season during which they won the Donegal League Premier Division, the Brian McCormick Sports Cup and the Ulster Junior Cup.
He said the players were wonderful role models for the young kids who go to games, and play underage and who themselves are the future of the club.
Among those present was Minister for State, Charlie McConalogue.
The evening ended with the presentation of a special scroll by Mayor Brogan to Chairman, Eamonn McConigley.
